as of this afternoon, my minion of small converts is now running around chanting "Erica i Christopher." their tone was, at first, hesitant—expectant, with dark eyes raised towards me—but, now that they have secured the syllables, the volume, repetition and obvious delight know no bounds.
we teach best the things we know, through and through.
and then there are the things we do not—and yet must, anyway, impart. the newest development on this front: after the pedagogical disaster (mostly for practico-principled reasons) that was my attempt at English classes for 5 and 6 year-olds, i have begged a reprieve therefrom. the other day, however, Vesna approached me and asked if i would, as an under-table trade, teach Michael That Language. granted, no one (including me, including Michael (although he probably doesn't know, one way or the other)) is expecting much beyond essential nouns. but, needless to say, the essential irony is not lost.
perhaps it is no coincidence that, here, no differentiation between the verbs "to learn" and "to teach" exists. in short: we are a wholly unqualified bunch.

So what happened?
A meta-comment: This blog now has in excess of *half a megabyte* of text and code alone, and must load rather slowly over a modem connection. Have you thought of archiving any of the pages at all? By month perhaps, or by epoch (Ann Arbor, AA to Belgrade, Belgrade)?
nothing "happened." my apologetic stance on the English language was, however, quite detrimental in the "crowd-control" department. you've got to be fairly convinced of something before you try to cram it down small and resisting throats....
and, about that 0.5MB, what can i say: i am verbose and log like it. (furthermore, though i have barely a grasp of anything about which i speak, this has never prevented me from forging ahead at exactly the moments when i ought to be, say, archiving.)
