even yahoo seems to be looking wryly, as in: "Milošević, who presided over four Balkan wars and the breakup of Yugoslavia that cost some 250,000 lives, died of a heart attack in bed in his jail cell."
it points a shadowy finger: we all must, in the end (and in the end), die alone and as good as nameless, cut off both from our most momentous-seeming life-deeds and those individuals who would, with grasping-loving fingers, promise—who would, with these very same, give our actions life beyond themselves.
and, with its back to the sun, the inevitability elongates: these promises are empty when most they oughtn't be—and here, the dead dog in his cell allows fester precisely because of the banal anonymity of his death.
